Wordpress Plugin: Published Articles Since Last Visit

Just like the title says, the plug-in will offer you the possibility to display a list of published articles on your blog since a returning visitor’s last visit.

Download it Now

So, here is what you need to know about this plugin:

  • It allows full configuration of the message to display to your returning visitors
  • It is only displaying anything to the users that are returning to your blog and only in case they have missed some of your published posts.
  • The plug in doesn’t place any files on your visitors computer.
  • The plug in only works if you use Google Analytics for tracking. However, if you don’t use Google Analytics no errors of any kind will show up to your visitors.
  • It doesn’t display anything for the visitors that visit you from your RSS feed. (only works if you use Feedburner)
  • It allows you to connect to Google Analytics and see how many people viewed the suggested articles by this plug in and how many of them clicked on them. So, you really get to know if this plug in brings any value to you or not.

I like to think of this plugin as the “What Would Seth Godin Do” on steroids version. The difference is that we tackle returning visitors that have already proved engagement for your blog and I display them content that most likely is what they are looking for.

Hey Guys!

I think this is fantastic for regular blogers with a constant base of visitors. As i regularly read some blogs i found it very useful as an alternative way of browsing articles until i found the last one i read.

Great job!

Hi Cristian.

Thanks a lot for your comment. Yep, you are spot on. That’s exactly what we are following with this plugin: to make it easier for the readers, especially the ones that are returning ones.

Cheers.

Sweet!

I will download and try it on my blog!

Hmmmm… I tried it and it does not work.

I inserted the code: where appropriate.

I think that (perhaps) the problem is with my theme and that we load some JS.

Can you guys have a look?

Hi Les,

It seems to be working fine, just it seems you didn’t place the php tag in the right file. I’ll follow up by email on it.

Hmmm… It’s in index.php

Thanks for the work and contribution to the community.

Hi,

Nice plugin !
Is it possible to change the code to use the plugin as a widget in the sidebar instead of the top of page, please ?

Thanks
gigi

Hi,
Yes, we can consider that for the next update. We will look into offering the possibility of adding it to the widget section of any template.

Thank you for the suggestion.

doesn’t seem to be working here!

It only shows content if I send the date parameter. I’ve asked some friends to visit the page (for the first time, so they should have some unread article) but they see the space blank.
Am I doing something wrong? Obviously yes…

Hi Fabian,

The plugin only interacts with returning visitors. Basically, if you publish now 3 more articles and your friend comes to visit again, he will be presented the titles of those articles.

I guess in a future version we could add a special text for new visitors as well. I’ll look into it.
Thanks for the comment.

I’m afraid it´s not the case, I’ve just published new stuff and my friends don’t see ne content at all. Another good thing you could add to the plugin is an alternate message, something like “nothing new yet!!”

You got me here :) . The plugin only looks at the date, not the hour. Maybe I should correct that as well. If you want to debug with out using the date parameter, play with the date of your computer. The Google Analytics cookie reads the visit date from there. Visit your website while switching the date to, let’s say, last month, close the browser, change the date to today and visit your website again.

As for the “Nothing new yet!”, I think it can work really nice with an invitation to follow on twitter or subscribe to RSS. This one I’ll definitely do.

I was thinking on something else. Perhaps the fact that the articles are really new has something to do with it, since analytics needs 1 day to start showing results.
